Our home is located at 1505 Country Club Lane, a quiet, dead-end street with only 5 houses and minimal traffic. The house is a spacious 4,000 sq ft ranch style home built in 1957 and located on a 2.18 acre lot which has a fabulous view of Decatur Country Club across the street. Our house is one of only 5 homes which face Decatur Country Club. There are only 8 other homes which adjoin the club; they are on a busy street with much smaller lots. Our back yard is screened by trees and shrubs from a church located behind the house. Our house offers secluded living in the heart of southeast Decatur.
The house sits on a partially wooded lot with mature trees front and back. The one acre back yard is enclosed with 4 ft high black chain link fence. The portion of the fence closest to the house is a decorative aluminum fence. A carport protects 2 cars from the elements and has two large storage closets. A large paved parking area at the rear of the house, beside the formal entrance to the house, can hold 8-10 cars for parties or other occasions.
Our house has a very livable floor plan and is ideal for hosting overnight guests and/or parties. We have hosted a missionary family of 7 for 10 days with no problems or congestion in the house. A continuous hot water heater supplies the master and family bathrooms. A second hot water heater in the front of the house is wired for a continuous water heater that is not yet installed. There is plentiful closet and storage space throughout the house and a 10' x 10' storage shed behind the house.
The house was completely updated in 2005, including a spacious new kitchen with hardwood flooring, new cabinets with roll-out shelves, stainless steel appliances, and granite counter tops. Hardwood flooring was added or refinished in the LR, DR, guest BR, hall, and den. A new slate floor was added to the entry foyer. The bathrooms were not changed because we liked the original tile work so well.
The open porch on the front of the house faces the golf course and is perfect for eating, entertaining, or just sitting and admiring the beautiful and peaceful view of the front yard and golf course. We have a regular menagerie of birds, hummingbirds, squirrels, butterflies, and chipmunks who visit the porch on a regular basis. The spectacular view from the den is reason enough to love this home.
Pictures of the outside of the house are shown on this page. Inside pictures are shown on other pages of this web site (www.jppeters.com). If you have questions or would like to view our home, call John Peters at 256-318-0020 (cell).
